UEC: Counterfeit Ballot Seals Spotted Throughout the Country

Saturday, November 7, 2020

The Union Election Commission (UEC) has reminded voters to check the seals on their ballots before voting in the country’s general election on Sunday.

On November 6, the UEC urged voters to look for a seal with the UEC’s name, not only a seal with the correct logo and markings, noting that counterfeit seals had been spotted throughout the country.

“If people only see the correct mark and no ‘UEC’ in the seal, they need to report it to polling officers or deputy polling officers or members of the polling staff immediately,” the UEC’s statement said.

According to the UEC, falsified seals matching the description above had been identified in multiple states and regions.

Advance votes with the incorrect seal were found in Chaung Oo Township in Monywa District in Sagaing Region, and in polling stations in Inn-Byaung village in Mon State’s Paung Township, Myoma ward in Yangon’s Hlegu Township, and Aung Zayya and Zayya Thiri townships in Naypyidaw.
